David Tennant met actress Sophia Myles in October 2005, when she played Madame de Pompadour in the Doctor Who episode "The Girl in the Fireplace". They started dating soon after meeting. The notoriously private David rarely talked about the relationship, though he did confirm that they were in a relationship in interviews. Sophia was less reticent and spoke in interviews about her love for him, and the fact she carried a doll of him around in her handbag. However the couple regularly attended red carpet events together holding hands and posed for photographers together.
In 2006, Sophia told interviews she was madly in love with David, and that the pair hoped to marry and have children.
In July 2007, Sophia was given 24 hours to decide whether or not to accept a role on an American TV series, which would involve moving to Los Angeles. She decided to accept and moved to LA soon after. Living on different continents led to problems in their relationship, especially as David's mother was at this time dying of cancer. They broke up in October 2007.
