Gary Neville & Emma Hadfield wedding STAR PLAYERS Bride: Emma Hadfield, 25, a former shopgirl turned holistic therapy student. Groom: Gary Neville, 31, Manchester United captain and England regular. The couple met in 2004 just after England’s last Euro campaign, and Gary quickly proposed to her at his holiday home in Gozo, Malta. It was a wise tactical decision. The previous girlfriend of the player dubbed Mr Boring by his team mates famously dumped him for a man in a Vauxhall Astra. THE STADIUM The field of dreams for the match was the hallowed Manchester Cathedral. The day began with guests drinking to the health of the couple – quaffing Louis Roederer 1997 vintage Cristal champagne costing £205 a bottle at a nearby hotel. The classy couple, who reportedly wanted to have a more sophisticated and regal wedding than their Match of the Day rivals, had decorated the 800-year-old cathedral with a dozen 20ft white flower arrangements. The cathedral is actually Neville`s parish church since he moved to a £1million penthouse on the same busy street. Following the service at 2.30pm, the wedding party drove to Gary`s 17th Century moorland home, Top o` The Knots, near Bolton, that he has barely finished refurbishing at a cost of £12million. It has been dubbed "Neville Neville Land". An enormous marquee was erected on the lawn, which helped ensure that the WAGs did not get their heels stuck in the mud left behind by the recently departed team of 200 builders. The footballer hired two light aircraft to stage a flypast and 15-minute display for his new bride. THE OFFICIALS Best man duties were performed by Gary`s brother and sometime England teammate, Phil. Gary was best man at David and Victoria Beckham`s wedding but the Real Madrid star was unable to return the favour as he was preparing for his last match of the season. He sent a video message. There was panic when Phil realised his wedding suit had been left behind, and he was dispatched to the Harvey Nichols store to buy a replacement. Gary`s father, the amusingly named Neville Neville, was master of ceremonies. THE CROWD Wayne Rooney and Coleen McLoughlin attended the ceremony, but not the reception. Manchester United legends in attendance included former captain Bryan Robson, who also enjoyed himself on the stag night in Madrid, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs. THE KIT Emma looked sensational in a full-length ivory gown from Amanda Wakeley and a glittering tiara. Gary wore a brown suit and the bridesmaids wore coffee-coloured gowns. The invitation had requested a dress code of Manchester United colours – red and white – but most guests wisely chose what suited them. HALF-TIME ORANGES Gordon Ramsay had been asked to do the catering but said he was too busy. The alternative included sausage and mash canapés. OVER THE TANNOY Trendily bearded tenor Jon Christos, despite being an avid Manchester City fan, sang in the Cathedral while diminutive Ray Quinn, an X-Factor finalist, belted out Gary`s favourite Motown and swing hits. Singer James Blunt reportedly turned down £100,000 to perform. TACTICS Gary scored with a £170,000 engagement ring. Cost: £500,000 to £1million TEAM SPONSOR Gary and Emma decided to turn down large offers from both Hello! and OK! in order to keep the day private.
