It's the question that has crossed every viewer's mind while watching Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir skate together — are the Canadian figure skaters dating?
The short answer is no, at least not officially. According to their completely addictive W Network reality show, "Tessa & Scott," Moir has a girlfriend, Cassandra, who he's been with for less than a year.
Moir and Virtue, who recently won silver medals in ice dancing at Sochi, certainly seem to have their chemistry down pat, finishing each others' sentences in interviews and gazing into each others' eyes in a way that feels like more than mere showmanship.
It's somewhat difficult to believe these two, who have grown up skating together, have never had any romantic feelings for each other. According to a 2010 Globe and Mail interview, they did in fact "date" for a brief period when they first met, when Tessa was 7 and Scott was 9. He ended with a phone call, saying, "Tess, I don't want to go out with you any more" and hanging up.
These days, they don't deny the challenge of their unique relationship and how it affects other potential partners.
“It is just different,” Moir said in an interview with the National Post
in 2012. “The person has to understand.”
