Laura and Gilbert met back in 2001 when Arenas was emerging as the star player for the Golden State Warriors and Laura was working in public relations for the Sacramento Kings. They dated for a few years but broke up when Gilbert signed a $65 million contract and went to play for the Washington Wizards in 2003. Even though the couple had called it quits, they still kept an on-again, off-again type of relationship so, needless to say, Gilbert was shocked to learn that Laura was pregnant.
